Dana-lee Melfi — known online as Peace-Man is a Canadian citizen, public servant, and independent investigator whose four-year quest for accountability has become one of the most detailed citizen-led documentations of institutional conduct in modern Canadian history.
On February 19, 2022, Dana-lee was peacefully standing in Ottawa during the Freedom Convoy protests when he was arrested without provocation. Charged under the Emergencies Act (later ruled unreasonable and unjustified by the Federal Court), he chose a path few others took: instead of moving on, he began systematically gathering every piece of official paperwork generated by his case.
What started as a personal fight for justice
grew into Peace-Man.ca — an open, public archive of over 5 terabytes of timestamped government files, ATIP responses, LECA and CRCC decisions, court disclosures, audio recordings, and correspondence.
Every document is sourced directly from the institutions themselves. No commentary is needed when the receipts speak this clearly.
A long-time public servant with a decorated record in both government and private sectors, Dana-lee lives with disability on a modest income. The pursuit has cost him over $60,000 and countless hours, yet he has never sought donations, crowdfunding, or media fame. He works alone, using only citizen tools — Access to Information requests, civilian oversight complaints, and persistent follow-up — to hold police services, federal departments, and oversight bodies to account.
He coined the term #PIIP (Political Interference Into Policing) to describe patterns he uncovered: discrepancies in arrest records, circular referrals between oversight agencies, and apparent coordination that shielded certain narratives while silencing others.
His work exposes not just one arrest, but systemic gaps that affect every Canadian who trusts institutions to operate transparently and in good faith.
Peace-Man is not affiliated with any political party, protest organization, legal fund, or media outlet. He is simply one citizen who refused to let the paperwork lie.
